Kempten, December 2018: The release of CODESYS V3.5 SP14 provides manufacturers of intelligent devices with a number of new functions that are indispensable for use in the Industry 4.0 environment.
The market-leading IEC 61131-3 development platform CODESYS is used for programming application software in the industrial environment for about 1 000 different intelligent device platforms. These include embedded devices without operating systems, Linux®-based boards, and industrial PCs with Microsoft Windows, Linux, or VxWorks®. All the device manufacturers have to do to make the hardware compatible with CODESYS is to implement the runtime system CODESYS Control, which is available as a product.
With the release of CODESYS V3.5 SP14 in December 2018, the functionality of CODESYS Control has been extended. The runtime system is now available in a 64-bit version for all Arm® Cortex®-based platforms, optionally with multicore support for Raspberry Pi, and other platforms. In order to make these systems fit for use in the Industry 4.0 environment, additional cyber security functions have been integrated: Users can now configure user administration as well as the encryption and signing of the communication via X.509 certificates as user options.
In addition to the core functions in the runtime system, the PLCHandler has also been expanded. It is now available as a 64-bit version under Windows or Linux and allows any external system, such as graphical user interfaces or configuration tools, symbolic access to the data of the application software. This communication channel can also be encrypted and supports simple standard monitoring for lower-performance embedded devices.
